MORE young people were arrested for loansharking last year against the year before. As, many of them wanted to make easy money.

Between January and November last year, police caught 159 young people aged 19 years and below who were involved in loansharking and related harassment activities, a 12 per cent rise from the 142 nabbed in the same period in 2009.

In the first 11 months of last year, police arrested 1,443 people in total for loansharking and harassment activities, an increase of about 66 per cent from 868 in the same period the year before.

Unfortunately, these arrests can still haunt a person's life for years after the arrest and conviction occurred.When a person has a criminal record, that piece of information can keep the person from getting a job.

This is particularly true for the person that has been convicted of a crime and fails to report it on a job application. If the company finds out about the record, that company is likely to fire the employee on the basis that he or she did not report that he or she had arrested and convicted of any kind of crime.
